We see this type of event happen every day to ordinary people. Two people are dating one another, one break it off, while the other wants to continue. It was sort of a shock to see that celebrities go through the same thing. I would think that if a relationship did not work out then a celebrity would just move on to the next candidate in line. I do not know the extent of Mariah Carey and Eminem’s relationship but they clearly have differing stories. Eminem has put out a response to Mariah’s song Obsessed basically stating his side of the story.
Whatever the truth may really be, I think that they both are not setting good examples for the youth in our society. To me they are saying that it is okay to publicly humiliate an ex girlfriend, boyfriend, or just someone who you thought you were interested in. That is just not cool. Since they did not work out they should have acted maturely about the situation. They should have not gone and spread each other’s business publicly on records that can never be destroyed now. Personal relationships are meant to be just that personal. To me these two songs really show the true Character of both entertainers.
I understand that making music is there passion; however they could have been more tactful. Mariah did not have to dress up as Eminem in her video and Eminem did not have to call her and her present husband Nick Cannon out on his reply to Obsessed.
I liked your choice for the weekly analysis. Although I did not follow too much on the controversy between Mariah and Eminem, I see that the album releases and their breakup seems to be a marketing tactic for Mariah. Like you mentioned, many people have experienced past relationships where it did not end so well. With that in mind, people will be able to relate themselves to the celebrity. In return, the celebrity will be able to sell more records.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your analysis on Mariah!
I am up on the whole Mariah and Eminem topic. I like the song Obsessed as well. What I get from this is that this is so common there has always been beef in music. If it was fake or not it has lead to increased media and record sales. I think it's just another way to sell more records, but that is just my opinion and yes I am going to buy here record. LOL.
ReplyDeleteGreat Post Bobbie
Bobbie,
ReplyDeleteI do not know the entire story but I do no that it is way more to the story than Mariah's version. Eminem usually rap about the truth. I wish that there was a way to see who version has more merit.
I like your analysis. I think Mariah and Eminem are very talented pop culture icons in their own right and should not confront their differences in the media. However, the norm in pop culture these days is for everyone to play out their drama in the media. Look at the relationships of "Bennifer" and "Brangelina", had it not been for celebrity couples airing their dirty laundry would we not be waiting in anticipation to find out what happens to Jon & Kate's marriage. Eminem is known for these controversial feuds, the one with Mariah will blow over just like the ones with 50 cent and Elton John. Kiss and make up already!
